PGH Activity: Plover Cove Reservoir Guided Tour

Dear PGH Residents,

PGH Activity: Plover Cove Reservoir Guided Tour 船灣淡水湖深導行

Deadline of registration: 10 Oct (Fri)

Do you know Hong Kong has the world’s first “reservoir in the ocean”? It’s autumn time now, let’s go hiking to see this engineering masterwork!

Built over half a century ago, Plover Cove was the first reservoir in the world created by converting a coastal bay into a large reservoir to store the Dongjiang (East River) water supply from the Mainland China to Hong Kong. At a time when most freshwater reservoirs were constructed by damming a valley or digging a lake in flatland, the “bay-to-reservoir” idea was pioneering and innovative. Since then and till now, it has been playing a crucial role ensuring the stability of water supply in Hong Kong.

Our route itinerary would introduce to you the master waterworks amidst the beautiful reservoir landscape. Participants will be guided by experienced tour guides from the Hong Kong Water Supplies Department to tour the Plover Cove Reservoir, where you can learn the various procedures in transporting Dongjiang water to Hong Kong, also know the 60-year history of Dongjiang water supply to Hong Kong and the water supply system in Hong Kong.
